This episode largely serves as more character development for Larry. There have been hints at his involvement with a government agency after his accident, and “Danny Patrol” feels in those gaps in his story.
The episode features a powered person, thing, entity known as Danny The Street that can teleport around, along with anyone inside its borders/boundaries. Danny serves as the home for those who are different than normal society. Those that don’t quite fit in. The highlight of the episode is probably the musical number Larry sings, in his pre-accident form of Matt Bomer, with a drag queen named Maura Lee Karupt (read as Morally Corrupt).
Cyborg is teamed up with Larry trying to help Danny from the previously hinted at government agency. We are treated to Cyborg being very judgmental of the occupants of Danny at first, but he fills the typical character arc of coming to accept the residents for who they are. The hunt for Niles is what originally led Cyborg and Larry to Danny, and at first Danny is more than happy to help…until Mr. Nobody’s name gets dropped. After that, the teleporting street regretfully bows out of helping Niles due to the danger involved, once more hinting at the power Mr. Nobody must command, even if it usually takes the form of an emboldened rat or a flatulent donkey.
Another personality of Jane’s shows up. This personality is a stereotype of 90s Rom-Coms, complete with bad hair style. She can also be a dominant personality. I believe it is said that the longer she is in control, the harder it is to get control away from her.
Cliff and Rita have smaller roles on this show. About all that can be said about them is that Cliff’s robot body has some advantages, all other robots have disowned him for his bit of dancing the Robot, and it’s a good thing Hammerhead hates Cliff so much. Notice I didn’t mention Rita in that recap? Yeah, she could have just not been in the episode, and we would have missed very little besides some exposition.
Now to wait until Friday for the next episode of Doom Patrol.
This was one of my favorite episode.
