This episode is largely geared towards diving into the history of Rita Farr. We see how she gains what control she has over her powers, as well as her time spent with members of a previous incarnation of the Doom Patrol, especially Mento.
With seeing this previous team of Doom Patrol, we also get to see more of Niles’ past, and an idea of just how long Mr. Nobody has been plaguing the Chief.
Cliff Steele tracks down his daughter on social media and asks Cyborg to get around her privacy settings. Cyborg’s dad, Silas Stone, also shows up to assist with his son’s repairs, and to take him out of safe mode. More references are made about the Justice League, and how Mr. Nobody isn’t a big enough threat to warrant the League’s attention. Personally, I think that Mr. Nobody seems to be powerful enough, but that he’s so focused on Niles, that he doesn’t become a bigger threat to the world.
Cliff and Silas Stone have a conversation, both about how Silas had provided recommendations on Robotman’s design and about parenting. An admonished Silas realizes that Vic is a good kid with good intentions, and restores him and engages his privacy settings, “for real this time”.
Jane gets a wake-up call in this episode that Niles may not deserve all the trust that she had been placing in him. I’m interested to see how that plays out.
The series seems to be hitting it’s stride, but I wonder how many people have stuck it out up until now.
