Liz isn’t wasting any time in trying to solve her sister’s murder. This week her focus is on who Rosa was secretly seeing, which is also someone broke her heart in the weeks before her death. The more Liz digs, the more shocking secrets she learns about Rosa, which ultimately leaves her with more questions. Then there’s the Max of it all. Is she desperate to prove his innocence? While Kyle is there for Liz through all of this, that’s a question he poses after Liz uncovers a shocking connection. Also, what lengths will Isobel, Michael, and even Max go to stop Liz from digging?
Looking for the Wrong Clue
When Liz finds an old class ring, she knows exactly who it belongs to, Fredrico – Rosa’s ex-boyfriend and drug dealer. She invites Fredrico to the diner to give it back to him, and hopefully find out more about Rosa. Before he can really give her any information, though, Mr. Ortecho runs him off. Thankfully, he comes back with Rosa’s old backpack that has a note and train tickets for the day after she died.
Liz takes the note and searches through Rosa’s old yearbooks for a handwriting match. She doesn’t find anything until she gets to Kyle’s senior note from his parents… more specifically, his dad. The handwriting on the note matches his late father’s handwriting. So, of course, she automatically assumes that Kyle’s dad was having an affair with Rosa. She confronts Kyle with this, but he’s in denial because he idolizes his father. He accuses Liz of being desperate to prove Max’s innocence, so she’s latching on to every little thing. Liz quickly backs off the idea, agreeing that the idea is a bit far-fetched. Plus, she doesn’t want to tarnish Kyle’s memory of his father. He doesn’t deserve that because he’s one of the best people she knows.
How Do You Truly Feel About Me?
After restoring the power, Max heads to the diner to talk to Liz. He runs into Kyle, who’s on his way out after his rendezvous with Liz. In not so many words, Kyle lets Max know that he knows what he is. Max goes into the diner and straight up asks Liz if she told Kyle. She admits it and explains how Kyle saw the handprint on her and that he’s been the only one she can talk to about everything. Max asks if she really believes that he had something to do with Rosa’s death. Liz explains that she’s never wanted to believe someone more than him, but she has this cage around her heart that Rosa taught her to build, and she can’t shake the feeling that he’s lying. ☹
Max then asks how she truly feels about him, to which she rambles on about having a lot of different and conflicting feelings. He questions if she at least believes everything he said at the drive-in (specifically how much he loves her), and she assures him that she does. That’s all that matters. “I want you to take that with you, wherever you go next. Goodbye, Liz.” With that, he walks away from her. ☹
We Have Each Other
Ever since Max released all his rage and blew the power out of the entire town, he’s been feeling better. As in, he no longer feels there’s a tornado raging inside him. In fact, he’s feeling so much better that he gives Isobel the go-ahead in trying to convince Liz to leave again. When Max leaves, Michael is concerned that Isobel isn’t strong enough to get inside Liz’s mind again. That’s why she drags him to The Wild Pony for practice. She starts with a sleezeball, but it’s too easy, so she sets her powers on someone else – Maria, who isn’t the biggest fan of Isobel.
When Isobel gets into Maria’s mind, though, her motivation quickly changes. She asks Maria why she hates her so much, and Maria says because Rosa did. Isobel then makes it her mission to figure out why. She never gets a solid answer, however, because, like Michael was worried about, she is too weak. So weak that her nose starts bleeding and she collapses in the bar. Michael takes her home where she finally comes to. She explains what happened and how she needs to find out why Rosa hated her, but Michael tells her that she “can’t get inside the mind of a dead girl.”
Max shows up and informs them that Kyle knows about him. He assures them that it’s just him, but Liz is determined to find Rosa’s murderer. It also won’t take long for Kyle to connect the dots. Their secret will spread, and the cops will stop at nothing to capture “a little green man.” Max states that he’s going to confess, but Michael steps up and says that if Liz wants a murderer, he’s going to give her one. He’s the one that doesn’t have anything to lose. “After all, I’m the one who killed those girls.” SAY WHAT? Is Michael the one who killed Rosa? I have so many questions and thoughts! What do y’all think?
Side note: In case you didn’t know, a few other girls died in the car accident with Rosa, which is why the town hates the Ortecho family so much.
Other Notable Moments
- During Kyle and Liz’s conversation about his dad and Rosa, Kyle tells Liz that his father knew about aliens. Then, deciding that they could both use a distraction, they agree on casual sex. They’re both consenting adults, so why not?
- Since the town’s power is out, the hospital is struggling to help the patience. There’s a little boy that Kyle knows who won’t make it if the power doesn’t come back. When Max shows up to drop off supplies, Kyle gives him a hard time about how cops are always doing the bare minimum. This hits a nerve with Max. So, he goes down to the basement and musters up all his power to turn the power back on.
- Sgt. Maines shows Jenna photos of lightening strikes at every power source in town. She brushes it off at first, but then she sees them on the hospital power box where Max got the power back on. Still, when Sgt. Maines approaches her later and offers her a “if you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” deal, she states that she doesn’t have an itch… until basically blackmails her because of her friend Charlie? I’m so confused and not happy about this arrangement.
- Mr. Ortecho passes out at the restaurant, and Liz rushes him to the hospital. Kyle helps him out by not officially signing him in so ICE doesn’t get involved. Turns out, Mr. Ortecho is pre-diabetic.
- Kyle told Liz about a job opportunity at the hospital. She’s making plans to stay.
- Max promised to make up for bailing on Jenna at the drive-in. Her request? “Queso, tequila, and no less than three orgasms.” Look at that, another no-strings relationship.
