Game of Thrones‘ Iwan Rheon, Katelyn Mager and Brendan Taylor star in a frightening sea quest in Mermaid’s Song. Nicholas Humphries turns the fairytale classic into a dark twisted adventure under the sea. In comparison to The Little Mermaid, this film depicts a story of a girl with a beautiful voice and talent that others are yearning for. However, Nicholas Humphries turns this family’s world upside down. The mother, Serena was tragically taken and the family business that her husband, George and her own goes south. A man named Randall comes swooping in to save the day but George soon realizes that his intentions were not in his favor. It puts the family at risk and goes against all of his beliefs especially when it comes to his daughter Charlotte.
This film definitely took me by surprise even though I knew that it was going to be strange and scary. There were many scenes between Charlotte and Randalls’s crew that were amazing to watch. However, I was expecting to see more of a fairytale light to it. Yes I knew this was a horror film and indeed it was, there was no magic to it like the original film. With that being said, I did enjoy watching the film and would recommend it to a friend. I also feel as though there could potentially be a second movie to go with it.
Mermaid’s Song arrives on digital September 18.
