Mr. Robot took over San Diego’s Petco Park on Thursday to debut the Mr. Robot Virtual Reality Experience via a simulcast that reached over 20,000 fans. A 12-minute film written and directed by Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail appeared in the Within app for a limited time and featured a 360-degree experience with Elliot (Rami Malek) and Shayla (Frankie Shaw).
Mr. Robot cast members Rami Malek, Christian Slater (Mr. Robot), Portia Doubleday (Angela), Carly Chaikin (Darlene), and Grace Gummer (Dominique “Dom” DiPierro) attended the premiere, ahead of their Comic-Con panel. The VR film was then available to screen at the Mr. Robot Repair Shop, a replica of the store Elliot’s father owns in season one of Mr. Robot, which was stationed in downtown San Diego. Fans were also able to hail a “repair van” through the Uber app and watch the VR on the fly.
