This week’s episode of Star-Crossed titled “And Left No Friendly Drop”, Roman (Matt Lanter) and his family’s home is torn apart by authorities searching for illegal technology. Roman’s mother (Susan Walters) tells Roman and Sophia (Brina Palencia) that they were looking for a cell phone which belonged to their father and Atrian leader Nox (Jason Douglas). Cell phones are not allowed within the sector and those who usually own the cell phones are Trags, which leads Roman to wonder why his father had one. Roman asks Julia (Malese Jow) if she knows anything about trying to find out what is on the phone.
She tells him that she isn’t very good with technology, but she does know somebody who is. She takes Roman to Lukas (Titus Makin Jr.) who tells Roman that he is on the Atrians’ side and can help him find out what is on the phone. He promises to help Roman try and find out who Nox was communicating with and what is on the encrypted video file on the phone. Later in the episode, when Lukas shows Roman the file, Roman is taken away into Gloria’s office where the sim card is destroyed. Lukas also discovers that whoever Nox was communicating with is in the school. Meanwhile, in class, it is revealed that Atrians have a superior respiratory system which include two fully functioning hearts and sets of lungs. Atrians also are bioluminescent in water and are allergic to cilantro and caffeine. Sophia, after talking with Emery, decides that she wants to try and join the swim team. However, not everyone is supportive of her.
A few teammates and Roman all believe that Atrians shouldn’t be on sports teams. Emery (Aimee Teegarden) argues that Sophia is the biggest asset they have and that they should allow her to compete. Gloria (Victoria Platt) then promises to see what she can do about the situation. Sophia is allowed on the team so long as she and the other Atrians can keep the peace with any humans that are opposed to her joining the team. When preparing for the competition, a member of the opposing team offers Sophia a drink, not telling her the drink contains caffeine. Roman, with the help of Emery, brings Sophia into the locker room to help her. However, a teacher refuses to leave the room. Roman pulls Emery aside and tells her that he can save Sophia with cyper, but he can’t do so in front of a human. On impulse, Emery gives Sophia a shot from an epi pen, assuming that it will help her like it would for a human’s allergic reaction.
Thankfully, it does work and Sophia begins to breath easier again. While this is happening, Grayson (Grey Damon), Teri (Chelsea Gilligan), Drake (Greg Finley) and other members of the swim team get into a fight with the other team because of what they did to Sophia. The fight is broken up and while the meet is cancelled, Gloria congratulates them on working as a team of both humans and Atrians for the first time. When Julia and Emery speak about the secret of cyper, Julia expresses relief that she doesn’t have to carry the secret on her own now. She also explains to Emery that cyper only works when infused with Atrian blood. She also tells Emery that while Roman is giving her the cold shoulder, he does still care about her and everything he does is to protect her and the Atrians. As the episode progresses, Grayson attempts to get back in Emery’s good graces, assuring her that he is not a Red Hawk like his parents are. It is made clear that she believes him when Grayson kisses her at the end of the episode and she doesn’t pull away. What she doesn’t know, however, is that Roman is on the bus to go back to the sector in full view of her and Grayson. He wears a face of sadness, visibly upset with what he is seeing.
In the final reveal of the night, we learn that Nox is the father of Gloria’s half-Atrian child as she watches the video found on Nox’s phone. The video shows Gloria holding the child in the water with Nox. The child’s markings are glowing just like Atrians.
