Elena’s new outlook has everyone concerned, leading Stefan and Damon to agree that going back to the normal routine of high school would be the best thing for her. Caroline is pleasantly surprised when Elena decides to rejoin the cheerleader squad, but her pleasure turns to shock when Elena’s behavior proves dangerous – she drinks from an opposing cheerleader. It’s soon realized that the sire bond no longer works, as it was tied to emotions, and Elena no longer feels them.
Hayley is attacked by a vampire sent by Katherine (Hayley had been working with Katherine, but is now a loose end), but she’s saved by Klaus. He gets her to reveal as much information as she can (or wants to) about Katherine, whilst Damon and Rebekah search for the vampire that attacked her (who is now dying because of the bite from Klaus). Damon finds him, recognizes him and kills him before Rebekah can question him. After being informed of the vampire’s death, Klaus says Hayley is free to go, or stay. The 2 end up having sex, and Klaus recognizes a birth mark on Hayley that may lead to her family.
Back at the Salvatore house, Elena is throwing a party. When the Caroline’s mother shows up to shut it down, Elena attacks her and then flees before Caroline can fight back. In the woods, Elena and Caroline fight, and Elena nearly kills Caroline before Damon and Stefan stop her. Damon takes Elena out of town to New York, Stefan realizes Silas is stealing blood from all of the hospitals in the local area, and Caroline receives bad news when Tyler signs the deed to his house over to Matt to protect her, but states that he’s never coming back.
It was a good episode, that furthered a few of the storyline. Hayley’s return gives Klaus something to do (literally), and brings us nearer to the backdoor pilot for The Originals. Elena’s new outlook was the main focus, and it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out in the coming weeks.
