This week we catch up with Benny, and his new life in Louisiana. Unfortunately, there’s a vampire kill noticed by Martin (the crazy old hunter friend of their Dad). The boys go to help investigate, and Sam gives Dean time to talk to Benny. We discover that it’s a rogue vampire, but when Dean explains this to Sam, mike knocks Dean out and they go after Benny. Dean wakes up and escapes, and Sam gets a text from Amelia asking for help, so he leaves Martin to help her (we also get flashbacks as to why he left in the first place – so she could be reunited happily with her previously-presumed-dead husband).
Benny and Dean track down and kill the rogue vampire, and Benny leaves. However, he gets a call from martin, who is threatening Benny’s granddaughter. Benny returns and offers himself up in her place. We cut to Dean getting a call from the granddaughter, and when he arrives he finds Martin’s body (don’t mess with Benny!). Sam realizes it wasn’t Amelia that called, and when Dean answers the phone they talk about Benny and Martin. Sam gets angry and is about to leave the bar when Amelia shows up, and the episode ends.
It was a strong mid-season finale, and very enjoyable. Benny seems to be developing into quite a good character, and it’s interesting to see his interaction with the other players. I kind of want him to met Cas in the real world, or the likes of Crowley. Hopefully we’ll see that in an episode in the new year.
